About the Scholarship
The Montclair NAACP William L. Scott, Sr. Scholarship is named in honor of Mr. William L. Scott, Sr., a lifelong resident of the Township of Montclair; a dedicated member of the Montclair NAACP; a member of the Township of Montclair Housing Commission; and a tireless advocate for civil rights and social justice. Throughout his adult life, Mr. Scott has been deeply engaged in civic leadership, consistently advocating for the basic civil rights of all people, with a particular focus on people of color and other marginalized communities.
Since the founding of the NAACP in 1909, education has been a cornerstone of the organization’s mission, serving as a vital pathway toward political, social, educational, and economic advancement. This scholarship opportunity reflects that enduring commitment by supporting students who are dedicated to academic excellence and community impact as they pursue their educational goals.
