As a result of the federal government’s failure to address the current healthcare crisis to ensure equal and affordable access to quality healthcare, in 2026, the average cost to American citizens for minimal healthcare will rise exponentially. This will have a tremendous impact upon senior citizens, and lower income children and families most in need. To be forced to choose between basic quality of life necessities (food, clothing, shelter) and proactive healthcare services intended to either prevent disease or sustain treatment in life-threatening conditions is a threat to both civil and human rights.
The NAACP is committed to ending healthcare disparities along race and other socio-economic demographics. Our aim is not simply disease prevention, but to create an inclusive culture of healthy people and communities. We will continue to advocate for reforms in both public and private health care systems to ensure that affordable, accessible, and high-quality health care is afforded to everyone. We urge you to join us and to fight back against skyrocketing costs that not only threaten us individually and collectively, but further enables systems of political, social and racial inequity to flourish. However, we are only as strong as the individuals who stand with us in our mission against these flagrant systems of injustice.
Because the affront to our civil rights are so complex, there are 24 individual standing committees framed by local units, State/Area conferences together with the leadership at the NAACP National Office in Baltimore, MD. These committees are uniquely structured to address the 21st-century civil rights agenda. Issues related to criminal justice reform, equal access to education, healthcare, housing, economic development, labor & industry, legal redress, membership, political action, Women in the NAACP (“WIN”), and religious affairs. There is ample room for you to demonstrate your talents and commitment to civil rights by joining any one or more of these committees. Take the next step - Get involved with the work! Together, we can do more than we can do alone.
