On Wednesday August 11, 2010 at 6:30 pm the prospective Montclair Branch NAACP Youth Council officers were installed by James Harris, The New Jersey State President of the NAACP. These fresh, intelligent, officers who are all students at Montclair High School included: President, Yvanna Saint-Fort, a Junior; Vice President Julien Blaney a Junior; Secretary Drisana Hughes, Junior; and Second Secretary Stephanie Powell, a senior. The event was held at the Law Offices of William J. Ewing at 70 Park St. Suite 200 in Montclair, NJ, the site where most of the planning and recruiting is held. Along with Mr. Ewing, some of the other attendees included members of the adult council in the Montclair Branch NAACP-Beverly Bussey, Marcia Brewington, Toure Bridges, Jennifer Escobar and Thomas Reynolds. Since the installation the new officers started working to ensure the success of their 2010-2011 term. The President’s number one priority is to get new members. She says, “…getting more youth involved in such a positive program will do much to invigorate the Montclair Community. We're staring down a very brightly lit tunnel with nothing but success to greet us at the end; personally I look forward to accomplishing a multitude of goals." |
