History

The Montclair Branch NAACP was founded in 1916, just seven years after the founding of our National Office in Baltimore, MD.

Similar to the founders of the National Office, the Montclair unit was spirited by a few concerned and caring residents, who vehemently opposed the status quo and set out to demand justice and equality in education, housing, employment and health care. They fought not just for themselves but for all Montclair residents.

From that time forward, the Montclair Branch NAACP has been outspoken where issues regarding social justice are concerned. We believe that challenging the system requires the same level of courage and determination that was exerted back in 1916 in order to preserve and maintain those liberties, protect the NAACP legacy and continue to advocate for the civil rights of all people.
