Welcome message from the 4th Annual Membership Luncheon:

Welcome Members of the NAACP,

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has a rich history of 102 years of fighting for the educational, economic, judicial and social freedoms of all Americans. In that time, there has been the strategic position of the association to give all its members the ability participate in the process. From the active participant to be able to be involved in the day to day operations, to the Legal Defense Fund, to committees, to the newer initiatives of the NAACP: the Financial Freedom Center; Young Adult Committee; and Criminal Justice Committees.

Today, we welcome you to be a part of the 95 years of history of the Montclair Branch. In 95 years, we have worked together to engage the community in all aspects of Health, Education, Economic Development. The Youth Council and College Divisions have helped foster the new leaders of our business, politics and education. This town has no shortage of talent. A former Montclair ACT-SO national competitor has less than a month ago, released an album. Another former Youth Council leader has be a leader of his fraternity. Montclair has an extremely high rate of return. Those members of our Youth Council, ACT-SO Program, and College Division will be returning to town, and the Montclair Branch has the ability to re-engage them our NAACP family.

Today, for the new members, I welcome and thank you for joining our NAACP family. Today you are granted all the rights and privileges of members of the NAACP. I welcome you to take your membership to the next level. Become involved in the many committees. Find one that interest you, and extend your skills and talents to it. Come to the next branch meeting, on May 19th at the American Legion, Crawford Crews Post 251 at 210 Bloomfield Ave. The Crawford Crews Post has an extremely extensive history of the Black servicemen and woman from Montclair.

Today, we start with a simple method of action: Education, Advocate, Mobilize. For all issues, the Montclair NAACP will Educate her members on the issue; we will Advocate for the protection the rights we have come to expect; and we will Mobilize our community if needed to act. Through direct or indirect action, we will hold accountable all people who work against the equal rights without discrimination. You will shortly be receiving a newsletter from the Communications, Press and Publicity Committee giving a quarterly update of the Montclair Branch, Youth Council, ACT-SO and College Division.

I have been humbled that this branch has conferred its confidence in me to serve as president. I am excited about the work the committees are doing. I charge you all, as members to be National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, to get involved in. Your involvement can be as small as recruiting a friend to join the NAACP to joining a committee yourself.

Thank you for joining the NAACP,

Thomas L. Reynolds, aAIA, NOMA
President
