Membership

The Membership Committee is chaired by Ms. Marcia Brewington. Please contact Ms. Brewington with any questions you may have of the Membership Committee.

The Membership Committee shall:

  1. Work throughout the year to maintain and increase the membership of the Association;
  2. Be responsible for planning and organizing the annual membership campaign;
  3. Be responsible on a continuous basis for soliciting new members and for securing renewals; and
  4. Initiate all possible means to obtain Life Members and sponsor a continuing program towards this end.

Greetings NAACPers,

 

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for deciding to become a member of the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the world. Now that you’ve joined, I encourage you to join a standing committee to help promote the NAACP goals and objectives. A brief overview of those objective are as follows:

Objectives

  • To ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens;
  • To achieve equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice among the citizens of the United States;
  • To remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes;
  • To seek enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws securing civil rights ;
  • To inform the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination and to seek its elimination;
  • To educate persons as to their constitutional rights and to take all lawful act ion to secure the exercise thereof, and to take any other lawful action in furtherance of these objectives, consistent with the NAACP's Articles of Incorporation and this Constitution.

The mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic

equality rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.

Vision Statement

The vision of the NAACP is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination.

 

Attached is a description of our standing committee which are all extremely important to advancing the NAACP strategic plan. Please take the time to review the description and make the decision to join one or more of these committees.

 

Please be aware that monthly meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of each month (except during the months of July and August) at the Catchings/Owens Suite, 25 Maple Avenue, Montclair, NJ. General Membership meetings begin at 7:30 p.m.

 

It is both a privilege and an honor to welcome you to the Montclair Branch NAACP and I ask that you feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have. I also hope to work more closely with you in the future as we advocate for the civil rights of all people.
